Frequently Asked Questions about Electrolysis:
How long Has Electrolysis been used to remove hair?
Created in 1875 by Dr. Charles Michel, electrolysis has been around nearly 150 years. The ophthalmologist experimented in ways to remove painful ingrown eyelashes. He noticed the hairs were permanently removed after inserting a fine wire, which was attached to a battery into the hair follicle and release a small current, thus destroying the hair.
How does Electrolysis Work?
Electrolysis works by inserting a sterile probe (the same size as the hair) into the hair follicle down to the dermal papilla. The dermal papilla is the part of the follicle that contains blood and nerves, used to feed and encourage hair growth. If the dermal papilla is destroyed, the hair will die.
Once the probe is in place, a low-level electrical current is applied, destroying the papilla. Electrolysis involves a series of treatments over time, to eliminate the unwanted hairs.
